Usually yes, and it’s worth doing even when a mover says you don’t have to. A loaded dresser is far heavier than it looks, which makes it harder to carry safely through doorways and elevators, and the extra weight can crack joints or pull a drawer front loose in transit. Soft, light items like clothing and linens are sometimes fine to leave in solid, well-built dressers on a short local move, but glass, jewellery, electronics, documents and anything breakable should always come out.
