Case Study: Moving an Elections BC Office in Burnaby on Short Notice

When British Columbia’s snap provincial election was called in September 2026, Elections BC needed its district electoral office in Burnaby ready fast. They called President Movers. Our crew disassembled, protected and moved the office’s heavy furniture over two days, working around tight elevator windows and a team already busy preparing for voting day on October 24.

The Client: Elections BC

Elections BC is the independent, non-partisan office that runs provincial elections in British Columbia. For each election, it sets up district electoral offices that handle local voting arrangements.

Being called on by Elections BC was a genuine privilege for our team. Helping an election office get ready to serve voters is one small way we contribute to the community we live and work in.

The request was simple to describe and hard to schedule: move and arrange the furniture at their Burnaby office on Kingsway, right away, without getting in the way of election preparations.

The Challenge: A Snap Election Leaves No Time to Prepare

A snap election means everyone works on a compressed timeline, and the office move was no exception. There was no window to plan weeks ahead. We had to put together a crew on a priority basis and get to work almost immediately.

Three constraints shaped the job:

  • Limited time. Elections BC needed the space ready quickly so their staff could focus on the election.
  • Limited elevator access. The building’s elevator time was restricted, so we couldn’t move everything in one long session.
  • A busy, working office. Staff were already in the middle of election arrangements, so our crew had to work around them, not the other way around.

On top of that, the heavy furniture had to be dismantled before it could be moved safely.

How We Planned and Completed the Two-Day Move

With elevator time limited and the office in full swing, we split the move into two days. That kept each session short and focused and kept disruption to the Elections BC team to a minimum.

Day 1: Disassembly and protection. Our crew dismantled the heavy furniture piece by piece. Each piece was wrapped in moving blankets and secured with stretch wrap to protect surfaces, corners and finishes during handling.

Day 2: Moving out to storage. With everything disassembled and protected, we used the booked elevator time to carry the furniture out of the office and move it into storage.

Splitting the work this way meant we were never fighting the clock in the elevator, and the office could keep working around us on both days.

What Made the Difference: Patience in a Working Office

The hardest part of this move wasn’t the lifting. It was staying patient and attentive in an office where everyone was under pressure. Requirements could shift as election preparations moved forward, so our crew listened first, checked in often and adjusted without fuss.

In fast-paced office moves, timing is always a constraint. Our job is to take pressure off the client, not add to it. That means working quietly, keeping walkways clear and staying out of the way of people doing important work.

Our movers are trained to be professional in two ways: in how they handle furniture, and in how they read the space they’re working in. Whether it’s an office, a condo or a family home, understanding the environment is what turns a move into a stress-free experience for our clients.

The Result

We completed the move across the two planned days. The furniture was disassembled, protected and moved into storage, and the Elections BC team could keep their focus on getting ready for voters.
